Philadelphia has moved one step closer to allowing employees of small businesses to earn sick time to attend to their own health or that of a family member.
City Council’s Public Health and Human Services Committee voted unanimously to pass Councilman Bill Greenlee’s ordinance promoting healthy families and workplaces. It requires all employers with 10 or more workers to provide them with paid sick leave up to a maximum of 40 hours or five days a year.

The Committee heard testimony from a variety of community, business and political stakeholders.
City Council is expected to vote on final passage of the Ordinance at its regularly stated meeting on February 12, 2015.
DC 47 Members and others were in City Council attending that hearing in support of the legislation.
